*DJ DARA

Besides the Liquid Sky community, DJ Dara is probably New York\'s leading exponent of drum\'n\'bass. He has led several club nights around the city...
DJ Dara is considered one of, if not THE, best drum\'n\'bass DJ in the USA, but his presence is felt internationally. Originally from Ireland, Dara moved stateside in the early \'90s and quickly established himself in New York\'s underground dance scene. Furthering the movement, he helped open Breakbeat Science, the first drum\'n\'bass-only record store in the country, which lead to the development of two spin-off labels, Breakbeat Science Recordings and Orgone. Not to be outdone by his peers, Dara released his first full-length album, Rinsimus Maximus in 1997, which was quicly followed by Halfway Home on the same label (Sm e Communications) and the mix CD From Here To There on Moonshine Music. In addition to recording music and running his record store, Dara\'s also known for his Web-TV show, Velocity, on which he interviews drum\'n\'bass contemporaries from around the world.
Dara has a keen ear for the classic style of clean drum\'n\'bass and he uses it to create dark and beautiful melodies with hints of color from deep bass grooves with seamless transitions. An artist and an innovator, it takes a fair amount of skill to not only be able to create the beats you like, but to know who else is doing it too. With his own record store (Breakbeat Science) and his own labels (Breakbeat Science Recordings and Orgone), DJ Dara not only plays the scene but lives it in all aspects of his life. He gathers influence from the other artists he works with, a progression clearly shown if you listen to a retrospective of his stuff from Rinsimus Maximus to 2004\'s The Antidote.

*EVOL INTENT

The turn of the century has seen many incredible innovations in the production and development of drum n’ bass. Over the past five years the genre has been broken, recast, and mutated into perhaps the most aggressive and visceral manifestation of music today. The Atlanta-based artists Evol Intent are among the greatest purveyors of this incendiary, modern jungle sound. Birthed out of hardcore-punk culture, they developed a unique method for wrecking soundsystems. The Evol Intent approach is unmistakable: combine dynamic drum mechanics, razor sharp edits, sawtooth synths and an element of discord resonant of their punk youth. In a very short period of time the group has amassed a substantial discography while recording for their own Evol Intent label as well as numerous prestigious imprints such as Renegade Hardware, Outbreak, and Human.

The word on Evol Intent was spreading and caught the attention of Dieselboy who requested their skills for his acclaimed “Dungeon Master’s Guide” compilation, remixing a track from the world-renowned BT. Their 2005 “Us Against the World” mix CD and tour have given rise to numerous developments and further collaborations particularly with barcode label mate Ewun. With the assistance of LOAD Media, Evol Intent Recordings released new material by Mumblz, Arsenic, and Counterstrike and will also feature remix treatment courtesy of techstep stalwart Technical Itch and Milwaukee based phenoms Gein. One short year later saw the guys release the “Police Sate EP” which went on to be one of the best-selling EPs by an American drum n’ bass producer. Despite all these advances, Evol Intent were not content following a straight path and in an effort to branch out into different artistic releases they produced tracks for video games like the coveted EA Sports’ “Need for Speed” and Adult Swim promo adds.
Having achieved a degree of accomplishment approaching pinnacle proportions, Evol Intent sees no intention of resting or becoming complacent and went full force into 2007. This past year saw them reunite with friend Dieselboy for his ‘Human Resource’ release titled “Evol Intent Assemble the Monster”, featuring tracks that were re-edited, mashed-up and glitched. They also solidified other partnerships, this time with fellow producers Chris Renegade, Ewun, Apex and Spor to create the imprint Lifted Music. “Glock Party”, Evol Intent’s contribution to the label’s inaugural release “The Prologue EP” became an undeniable underground smash-a track that Goldie has been spinning all over the world and boldly states that “the reaction has been mental.”

In 2008, Evol Intent released their highly anticipated debut artist LP “Era of Diversion” which features the trio’s signature hardcore drum n’ bass sound, but the album has many surprises in store for fans, as it traverses different genres and styles. Breaking the mold and experimenting with other genres is extremely important to Evol Intent’s evolution which is why they also have side projects that afford each member an extra creative outlet. Intent in contemporary drum n’ bass is simply undeniable. Beats that think, beats that hurt…. Evol Intent beats nonetheless

*COMPUTER CLUB

Like the final round of a videogame tournament, Computer Club’s music is loud, aggressive and spattered with grimy funk. A tendency toward the heavy, distortion-tinged sound of electro house is well balanced with his penchant for funk-laden interludes amongst the banger blitz.

The Computer Club sound first emerged from the studio of Mike Diasio in 2007 when System Recordings, one of the largest electronic music labels in the United States, tapped him to sign the single “Load Rocket.” The song, one of the first completed by Diasio under the geeky guise, carried Computer Club’s name into both traditional record label outlets and the burgeoning music blogosphere alike – a trend rarely seen in the heavily populated landscape of today’s dance music. Original songs like “Flat Response” and “Laptop Levitation” showcase Computer Club’s highly honed sound design and audio engineering skills, while his remixes of Nine Inch Nails, Prince and New Order illustrate his ability to adapt the best of the big names to the dancefloor.

Along with his impressive studio output, Computer Club is a well-accomplished DJ by any measure. His steady stream of gigs has him traveling to every corner of North America with regular stops in New York City, San Francisco and everywhere in between. From rocking a 30,000-strong crowd at L.A.’s Nocturnal Festival to dropping an intimate set for his former home of Atlanta, Computer Club constantly exhibits his deftness and versatility behind the decks.

While recent releases such as a remix of Mr. Oizo’s “Flat Beat” and his re-working of Konflict’s legendary Drum & Bass anthem “Messiah” with fellow producer/DJ Le Castle Vania have helped propel his name to new heights, Computer Club has started working on his debut album. Tentatively titled “Nerd Secrets,” the full-length promises to showcase a wide swath of musical styles, ranging from dancefloor-filling, hands-in-the-air bangers to straightforward rock songwriting to experimental weirdness.

In addition to his newly-minted Computer Club moniker, Mike continues to push the boundaries of dance music as one third of Evol Intent, a hard-hitting Drum & Bass trio considered by many fans and DJs alike to be the UK-rooted genre’s most talented American group. Initially known as purveyors of the toughest brand of D&B, their debut album “Era of Diversion” exhibits a musical variety influenced by everyone from Radiohead and Aphex Twin to Slayer and N.W.A.

*DANNY THE WILD CHILD

Danny the Wildchild aka Daniel Garcia was born on the South side of Chicago in 1977. The brother of a once aspiring DJ, he keenly watched and quickly learned the tricks of the trade. Danny began djing at age nine soon surpassing his brother\'s abilities and eventually inherited his equipment and records. At twelve, Danny entered a Chicago area contest for young DJ\'s and won. He took home that fifty-dollar prize and was called \"The Wildchild\" from that day forward. Although Danny\'s roots were as a Hip-Hop DJ, he was eventually introduced into the Chicago Rave scene and to the world of drum-n-bass. He enjoyed this new form of music, but also loved hip-hop and began to creatively blend the two genres creating a unique sound of his own. As Danny\'s turntable talents grew, he began to incorporate scratching and DMC style battle tricks into his Drum-n-Bass sets. His precise mixing skills and unique style and sound gave him the opportunity to bring Drum-n-Bass into the DMC and Hip-Hop scenes. Danny\'s recognition has earned him a collection of praises from domestic and international magazines such as Mixer, Thousand Words, Faqt, and Lotus to name just a few. Danny was also featured as one of the people making waves in the scene in Urb\'s Next 100 Artists to Watch Issue. Today Danny has become one of the most valued U.S. Drum-n-Bass DJ\'s. His unique blends of jungle and Hip-Hop beats and amazing scratching and beat juggling have proved to be show stopping. His talents have brought him to perform in venues worldwide and opening up for such acts as Eminem, Method Man, The Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, Moby, Goldie, MixMaster Mike and The Pharcyde. Danny also toured extensively throughout Europe with DJ Q-bert in 2002 (see djqbert.com). Although most weekends he is on the road, he still has time to host the 12midnight slot on Chicago\'s Alternative Radio station Q101FM and is gotten back in the studio. In March, the Wildchild released a follow-up to his 1999 12\" release on Bad Boy Bill\'s Canvas label. His first effort at mix CD culminated in the release of \"Danny The Wildchild: Booked\" (March 2001). The Wildchild\'s was the first in a series of \"Booked\" CD\'s from Chicago\'s Strictly Hype Recordings. This was followed by the successful release of his latest CD in 2002 on Surge Recordings entitled \"Fully Sorted\".
